Subject-verb agreement(कर्ता का क्रिया से  तालमेल )

Subject-verb agreement definition: Subject-verb agreement includes matching the subject with the correct form of a verb.किसी sentence में subject के number तथा Person के अनुसार Verb का प्रयोग Subject-verb agreement कहलाता है।  Subject verb agreement

Rule 01 ⇒    यदि किसी वाक्य का Subject singular हे तो इसके साथSingular verb  का प्रयोग होता है।  और यदि Subject plural  हो तो plural verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

example:-

•  ram is going to market.  (correct)
• ram are going to market. (incorrect)
• Mohan was always late. (correct)
• Mohan were always late. (incorrect)

with I and You      Subject-verb agreement

Rule 02⇒  I use as a singular subject but follows both singular and plural verb. I एक singular subject है, लेकिन इसके साथ singular and plural दोनों ही verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है।                                            

example;-Subject-verb agreement

• I am a teacher. (√)
• I was a student. (√)
• I have a big car. (√)
• I play cricket. (√)

Rule 03 ⇒ you is used as a singular and plural subject but, we use the only plural verb. you का प्रयोग singular and plural subject के रूप में किया जाता हे लेकिन इसके साथ हमेशा plural verb का ही प्रयोग किया जाता है।

• you are a student. (√)
• you are engineers. (√)
• you go there. (√)

two singular nouns  add with ‘and’  Subject-verb agreement

Rule 04 ⇒  यदि two singular nouns ‘and’ से जुड़कर sentence के subject के रूप में प्रयुक्त हो, तो इसके साथ plural verb का प्रयोग होता है।

Example:-

• Ram and Shyam have done well in the examination. (√)
• Ram and Shyam has done well in the examination. (Χ)
• A boy and a girl love each other. (√)
• A boy and a girl loves each other. (Χ)

 

 with pair words

Rule 05  ⇒ pair words जैसे bread and butter, rice and curry, hammer and sickle, slow and steady, truth and honesty, horse and carriage, crown and glory, rise and fall, coming and going, age and experience, long and short, bag and baggage etc. का प्रयोग sentence के subject के रूप में होने पर इससे एक ही वस्तु या भाव का बोध होता है। अतः इनके साथ singular verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है।  Subject-verb agreement

example:-

• bread and butter is my favorite breakfast. (√)
• bread and butter are my favorite breakfast. (Χ)
• Rice and curry is a popular dish. (√)
• Rice and curry are popular dish. (Χ)

with each, Each of/Either of/neither of, many, A good many, A great many

Rule 06 ⇒ each  प्रयोग sentence  के subject के रूप में होने पर इसके साथ singular verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

example:-

• Each has a pen. (√)
• Each have a pen. (Χ)
• Each has a car. (√)
• Each have a car. (Χ)

यदि plural noun or plural pronoun के बाद each का प्रयोग हो तो इसे भी plural माना  जाता है। तथा इसके साथ plural verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है। जैसे :-

• We each have a pen. (√)
• We each has a pen. (Χ)
• The girls each have a watch. (√)
• The girls each has a watch. (Χ)

Rule 07 ⇒   Each of/Either of/neither of/ +plural noun /plural pronoun का प्रयोग sentence के subject के रूप में हो तो इसके साथ singular verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

example:-        Subject-verb agreement

• Each of these five cars is blue. (√)   
• Each of these five cars are blue.(Χ)
• Either of those two boys is gentle.(√)
• Either of those two boys are gentle. (Χ)
• Neither of you knows english. (√)
• Neither of you know english.  (Χ)

Rule 08 ⇒ अगर sentence का subject many, A good many, A great many हो तो, इसके साथ plural verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Example:- Subject-verb agreement

• Many are absent from the class. (√)
• Many is absent from the class. (Χ)

with both, several, various      Subject-verb agreement

Rule 09 ⇒  both, several, various का प्रयोग sentence के subjectके रूप में हो तो ,इसके साथ plural verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

example:-

• There are two girls in my colony and both are extremely beautiful. (√)
• There are two girls in my colony and both is extremely beautiful.    (Χ)

Rule 10 ⇒ both, several, various +plural noun  का प्रयोग sentence के subjectके रूप में हो तो ,इसके साथ plural verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

example:-          Subject-verb agreement             

• Both boys are handsome.  (√)
• several students are absent.(√)
• various boys are present.  (√)

with few, A few, very few and none, none of little a little

Rule 11 ⇒  few, A few, very few+plural noun and few of, a few of, very few of, +plural noun/plural pronoun का प्रयोग sentence के subject के रूप में हो तो इसके साथ plural verb का प्रयोग किया जाता हे। 

example:-

• many were punished but a few were guilty. (√)
• many were punished but a few was guilty. (Χ)
• very few people are laborious.(√) 
• very few people is laborious. (Χ)
• few of these books are in order.(√)
• few of these books is in order. (Χ)

Rule 12⇒ none, none of + singular uncountable noun का प्रयोग sentence के subject के रूप में हो तो इसके साथ singular verb का प्रयोग किया जाता हे। 

Example:-

• None has gone yet. (√)
• None have gone yet. (Χ)

Rule 13 ⇒ we use a singular verb with little, a little, the little, much

Example:-

• little is known about this man. (√)
• much has been done. (Χ)

With It, and There    Subject-verb agreement

Rule 14 ⇒ there का प्रयोग यदि introductory subject के रूप में हो तो इसके साथ verb का प्रयोग इसके बाद प्रयुक्त noun/ pronoun  मुताबिक होता हे।  

Example:-

• there is a book on the table. (√)
• there are five cars in the parking. (√)
• there is nothing for you. (√)

Rule 15 ⇒  we always use a singular verb with It

example:-

• It is I who am teaching you. (√) 
• It am I who am teaching you. (Χ)
• It is we who are helping you. (√)
• It are we who are helping you. (Χ)
