Singular and Plural noun

Hello friends, I’m Murli from engishspoken.com, we are going to learn How to form plural nouns from singular nouns.

1. ‘number’ noun की सख्या का बोध करता है। number दो प्रकार के होते हे।

1. singular noun(एकवचन संज्ञा)
2. plural noun(बहुवचन संज्ञा)

1 . singular number -the singular number is that noun which points out one person or thing .वह noun जिससे एक व्यक्ति अथवा वस्तु का बोध हो उसे singular noun कहते हे; जैसे:- book, cat, apple, boy, etc.

2. plural noun:-plural number is that noun which points out more than one person or thing. वह noun जिससे एक से अधिक व्यक्ति अथवा वस्तु का बोध हो उसे plural noun कहते हे जैसे :- books ,cats apples, boys, etc .

Rules of forming plural nouns.

1. साधरणतः Singuar Noun के अंत में S जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है|

Examples:-

• Owl – owls
• Year – years
• Dog – Dogs
• Soap – soaps
• Day – Days
• Fan – Fans
• Shirt – Shirts
• Cat – cats
• Cow – cows
• Pen – pens
• Hand – Hands
• Goat – goats
• Parrot –  parrots

2. यदि किसी Singular Common Noun का last letter s, ss, sh, ch, x, और z हो, तो es लगाकर उसका plural बनाया जाता है| 

Examples:-

• Tax – taxes
• Fox – foxes
• Bush – bushes
• Bus – Buses
• Match – matches
• Kiss – Kisses
• Fish – fishes
• Box – Boxes
• Class – Classes
• Ass – asses
• Hero – Heroes

3. जब किसी Singular Noun के अंत में f / fe हो, तो f and fe को v में बदलकर es जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है|

Examples:-

• Knife – Knives
• Wife – Wives
• Thief – Thieves
• Half – Halves
• Leaf – Leaves
• Loaf –Loaves
• Life – Lives

4. यदि किसी Singular Noun का last letter Y हो और y के पहले consonant हो, तो y को हटाकर ies जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है|

Examples:-

• Baby – Babies
• Lady – Ladies
• Story – Stories
• Nursery – Nurseries
• Country – Countries
• Army – Armies
• City – Cities
• Army – Armies
• Lady – Ladies

5. जब किसी Singular Noun के अंत में y हो और इसके पहले Vowel हो, तो only “s” जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है|

Examples:-

• Way – ways
• Toy – Toys
• Day – Days
• Joy – Joys
• Key – Keys
• Play – Plays
• Ray – Rays
• Boy – Boys
• Bay – Bays

6. कुछ Singular Noun का Plural “s/es” जोड़कर नही बल्कि उसके अन्दर के Vowel को बदलकर बनाया जाता ह|

Examples:-

• Mouse – Mice
• Foot – Feet
• Man – Men
• Louse – Lice
• Tooth – Teeth
• Goose – Geese
• Woman – Women

7. Compound Noun के मुख्य Noun में “s” जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है|

Examples:-

• Sister in low – Sisters in low
• Father- in- low – Fathers- in- low
• Passer-by – Passers-by
• Bookcase – Books- case
• Post-man – Post-men
• Pea-cock – Pea-cocks
• Stepson– Step-sons
• Class-room – Class-rooms

8. जब Compound Noun के शुरू में man या woman का प्रयोग हो, तो ऐसे Compound Noun के दोनों भागों को plural किया जाता है|

Examples:-

• Lord-justice – Lords-justices
• Man-servant–  men-servants
• Woman-singer –  Women -singers

9. कुछ ऐसे नाउन है जिसका प्रयोग Singular और Plural दोनों रूप में किया जाता है|

Examples:-

• Sheep
• Pies
• Aircraft
• Score
• Brace
• Cannon
• Cod
• Dozen
• Million

10. कुछ ऐसे nouns जो हमेशा plural होते है|

Examples:-

• Arms
• Ashes
• Shoes
• Tongs
• Cattle
• Folk
• spectacles
• Gentry
• Infantry
• Scissors
• People
• Police

    11. अंको numbers और अक्षरों letters को plural बनाने के लिए last में ‘s लगाया जाता है।

Examples:-

• 5 – 5’s
• 6 – 6’s
• k – k’s
• l – l’s
• m – m’s
• d – d’s
• B.A. – B.A.’s
• M.P. – M.P.’s
• Ph.D. – Ph.D.’s
